Terms of Service
Effective date: 9 July 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Meltema website, interactive weather map, and API at meltema.com (together, the "Service"), operated by Meltema LLC ("Meltema", "we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Meltema visualises and serves weather forecasts produced by third-party numerical and AI weather models (including GFS, ECMWF IFS and AIFS, the GEFS ensemble, and NVIDIA Earth-2 model family), together with verification statistics computed against ground-station observations. The Service is currently offered free of charge; paid plans with higher limits may be introduced later. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.
2. Not an official forecast — no safety-critical use
All forecasts shown or served by the Service are automated outputs of experimental numerical and machine-learning models. Several of these models are research artifacts that their authors state were not developed or tested for operational, non-academic use. Meltema output is not an official weather forecast or warning. Do not use the Service as a basis for decisions affecting safety of life or property — including aviation, marine, medical, or emergency decisions. Always consult your national meteorological service for official forecasts and warnings.
3. Accounts
Signing in uses your Google account; we store the e-mail address and display name Google provides. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your API keys secret. Revoke a compromised key immediately (it takes effect at once). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. API use
- Rate limits and quotas apply per key, session, and IP address and are published in the API documentation. Do not attempt to circumvent them (e.g. by rotating keys or addresses).
- Automated access is welcome — including AI agents via our MCP endpoint — within the published limits.
- If you republish data obtained from the Service, you must preserve
the per-source attribution notices served by the API
(
GET /v1/sources), which reflect the upstream data licences (e.g. ECMWF CC BY 4.0, ČHMÚ CC BY 4.0 for observation data, NOAA public domain). Responses ofGET /v1/locatederive from the DB-IP City Lite database (db-ip.com, CC BY 4.0) and carry the same pass-through attribution obligation. - Do not use the Service to imply endorsement by any data provider (NOAA, ECMWF, DWD, ČHMÚ, NVIDIA, Microsoft, or others), or present modified data as their official product.
5. Acceptable use
You may not: disrupt or overload the Service; probe or breach its security; access data or accounts you are not authorised to access; use the Service for unlawful purposes; or resell the Service as-is without adding material value. We may throttle, suspend, or block traffic that threatens the integrity of the Service for others.
6. Intellectual property
The Service's software, design, and compilation of data are ours or our licensors'. Underlying weather data remain subject to their providers' licences; nothing in these Terms grants you rights in third-party data beyond those licences. Feedback you send us may be used without obligation.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND — EXPRESS OR IMPLIED — INCLUDING ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AVAILABILITY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. Forecast data may be wrong, late, incomplete, or unavailable.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Meltema shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for all claims in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in that period and EUR 50. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law (including for intent or gross negligence).
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time; you can delete your API keys yourself and request account deletion via the contact below. We may suspend or terminate your access for breach of these Terms, legal requirements, or discontinuation of the Service.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced on this page with a new effective date (and, for account holders, by e-mail where required). Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Meltema LLC is organized, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence remains unaffected. Courts at the operator's seat have jurisdiction, unless mandatory law provides otherwise.
